The Egg, the Carrot and the Coffee

A girl once came home very agitated and stressed out and told her mom her worries.  The mother motioned her to the kitchen and, without saying anything, put an egg, a carrot and a coffee up on the stove to boil.  When they were ready she beckoned her daughter.

–  What do you see?

–  I see a soft carrot, a boiled egg and a coffee.

–  Yes.  And they are like people.  When it got put under heat, the carrot became soft.  Some people are like that – they crumble under the weight of pressure; the water won over the carrot.  Look at the egg – it is still an egg inside, and it did not melt, but it has a shell which seperates it from the rest of the world.  Some people are like that when facing life’s challenges, they retract under their shell and miss out on the world.  But look at the coffee.  The coffee was not changed by the water — it changed the water.  It won over the water.  Some people are like that – they use stress and life’s struggles as catalysts to make a difference in their lives or someone else’s.  They win over those challenges.
